RESTART
School Managed Move

This strand is dedicated to providing support aimed at reducing permanent exclusions amongst schools in the network. It focuses on implementing strategies to prevent permanent exclusions, ensuring a more inclusive and supportive learning environment.
What is the RESTART Programme?

This programme offers students the opportunity of a supported fresh start in one of the Compass network schools. It serves as a valuable intervention to avoid permanent exclusion, address immediate behavioural concerns and promote positive change.
Aims

-
To reduce permanent exclusions and foster more inclusive approaches.
-
To provide students with the opportunity to have a fresh start in a new school.
-
Ensure school attendance and minimise disruption to learning.
When it could be appropriate

-
In instances of a serious breach of a school’s behaviour standards which would be a permanent exclusion offence.
-
The consideration for permanent exclusion is linked to a isolated incident or issue.
-
There is no pattern of serious concerns relating to a student’s behaviour.
-
It is believed that a mainstream school is the appropriate environment for the student.
Decision

In order for a student to be accepted onto the RESTART programme at another Compass school, both schools and parents need to agree that it is in the child's best interest.
